Post so overdue...
Guilt has taken over, and I need to get caught up and stay caught up. I am just going to start back from where we're at, and take it from here.
Julia has exploded with her reading skills. She is reading chapter books and reads everything she gets her hands on. Her teachers have remarked to use how incredibly smart she is, and how they need to bring in more challenging books just for her to read. She is interested in everything, having a somewhat hard time grasping math but wants to learn, and she recently participated in a "Share Fair" at her school where we went in the evening, and the kids presented projects they worked on. Of course, a lot of the work was done by the parents (Daddy!), but she learned a tremendous amount, volunteered to present first, and read words like condensation, precipitation, and transportation without hesitation. We received a lot of comments from parents and teachers after that, and they told us they kind of regretted having her go first because they think it intimidated some of the other kids. Whoops! :)
Charlotte is also not lacking in the smarts department. I take so much joy in the papers and worksheets she brings home where the teachers write "done all by herself!" on it. She has done patterns correctly, matching, put sequences in order, and colored by number. We're still working on the whining with her, but hopefully, she will start decreasing that behavior soon!
Both the girls are super excited for the upcoming arrival of their baby brother. There will definitely be an adjustment period, and we know they are going to want to be VERY hands on and have to be told over and over to back off, but we're hoping as the novelty of the newbie of the fam wears off their enthusiasm to be in his face all the time will diminish.
Julia finally started soccer this weekend after a delay in getting the season started. At 7AM as I was wiping her bum she said to me, "I cannot wait for soccer. I cannot WAIT for the snack. I do not want to run, but I want the snack!" I was like, "Julia, why are we doing this if all you want is the snack?" Chris ended up taking her to the practice/game and he said she was a different kid. She ran after the ball (rather than just watching it roll by last season), and she was pretty aggressive. When she came home she told me she had to tell me something I would not believe. I said, "did you score a goal?" She said, "No, I did not ask about the snack once!" LOL. I was so proud. That's an improvement from last year when the coach took about five minutes to esplain a drill and Julia asked when snack was.
Charlotte went on her first playdate with a school friend and her Mom this past weekend. They went to "Nuthin But Good Times" which is a local indoor play gym. It's actually a fantastic place. When the mom brought her home she told me her daughter (Keira) told Charlotte she did not like her, and so Charlotte told her she did not like her, too. Then they went to McD's, and were best friends again the next day. Not even 4 and the drama begins!
Charlotte has been farting a lot-especially at the dinner table, and she thinks it's funny. I think Daddy may have contributed to that notion. So last night she farted and we reprimanded her and reminded her she needs to go to the potty if she needs to fart. A few minutes later she gets down from her chair and says she is going to the bathroom to fart. As she says it she farted. We just all busted out laughing. Hey, she tried!
The girls are loving all the flowers blooming, trees budding, and picking weeds for me. It is so fun to watch the seasons change through their eyes.
Julia is getting slightly bossy with Charlotte and wanting her own space when they sit in the living room. We have moved them into Julia's room to share, and they have new bunk beds. They are loving them, and for the most part, it has worked out well. They are still coming out of their room after we put them to bed which drives us crazy. But, otherwise, they are doing ok.
We had a hysterical moment the other night when Charlotte went into their room, and all of a sudden she was screaming and crying. Chris ran upstairs, and it turned out Charlotte stuck her head in the closet, the door closed on her, so she got her head stuck. After Chris got her out we stated laughing and Charlotte joined in and said, "that was hilawious". She didn't think that two minutes ago!
Ok....I left this to come back to and it is many months later. I am posting as is and am going to work on posting more!
