Julia and I took a road trip together to go visit my very good friend, Jenn, and her 4 year old daughter Abby (and her husband, Pete!). It was Abby's 4th birtday party, and we were thrilled to make it there to celebrate! It was at a Little Gym, and Julia had a blast playing on all the gym equipment, and she is now doing somersaults really well.
We drove to Stamford, CT Friday night and overnighted in a hotel. We only had one minor snafu where when we went to use the restrooms. They had automatic flushers. Julia is TERRIFIED of these things, and I could not get her to get on the potty. Finally I forced her and told her she could pick out a treat afterwards. She peed, and picked out her peanut M&M's-girl after my own heart.
Julia was more than happy to show off her brand new Princess suitcase that Daddy bought her on Friday. She got many comments, and when people asked her how old she was she gave the standard answer-"4, but next year I will be 5 and go to kindergarten". The front desk employee at the hotel asked her if she packed her suitcase and she told her, "no, my Daddy did". He did not, lol, but it was cute that she thought that, nonetheless.
We got up Saturday morning and headed to Jenn and Abby's, and the girls had an absolute blast with each other from start to finish. They have seen each other a minimum once per year, and they are old friends every time they get together. It is amazing to see them as this is the first year they really interacted with each other and played together rather than side by side. Abby was a great hostess to Julia, and it has been so fun to watch her grown and bloom into a beautiful little girl!
We stayed over their house Saturday night. The plan was for the girls to sleep in Abby's room together. Jenn read them a book that was the alphabet, and each letter started a vegetable. When Jenn got to "P" for "potato" the girls were stumbling because the pic did not really look like a good potato. So Jenn said, "How do we make french fries?" And, without hesitation Julia screamed out "McDonald's!". We got a good laugh out of that one!
So we left the room after lights out, and not 5 minutes later Julia is out. Long story short she and I ended up sharing an air mattress in the living room which Jenn and Pete so graciously brought out at 11 at night when Julia was still up! The funny thing is when I was a child, I could never sleep out of my element. I would go to my next door neighbor's for a sleepover, and I would always have to go home in the middle of the night. I can see these things happening with Julia.
The girls watched Annie, colored, played games, and had a blast together. It is a friendship Jenn and I plan to foster for many years to come, and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.
Julia LOVED playing with Abby's digital camera. I think we'll be telling Santa Julia is asking for a camera this year ;-).
Sunday AM we all headed to a yummy Jersey diner, and then we had Jersey pizza for lunch! It was a culinary fantasy, lol.
We left around 3 on Sunday, and what should have been a 4.5 hour trip turned into 9 hours. We got home at midnight. We drove through severe traffic, sheets of rain, and also got to drive by a van that was on fire, and was praying it did not explode! I pretty much kissed the ground when we got home. But, the most amazing part, of which I am so grateful is that Julia was truly an angel. She was pretty close to perfect the entire way home.
We had an absolute blast and look forward to seeing them again soon!
